The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions of Kaduna State (JUTIKS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Kaduna State Government to address their long-standing demands, failing which an indefinite strike would commence on August 19.

Members of JUTIKS comprise of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Kaduna State College of Nursing Sciences, Kaduna and Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi.

This, was contained in a communique issued to newsmen after a meeting on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Signatories to the communique included Christopher Yarima, Chaiman of COEASU Gidan Waya, Abubakar Abdullai, Chaiman NASU Makarfi, Abubakar Aliyu, Chaiman SSANIP, NBPZ, among others.

JUTIKS expressed skepticism over the government's commitment to implementing the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) salary structure, which has been pending for 15 years.

They stated that in spite being in the third quarter of the year, no tangible action has been taken.

The union appreciated Governor Uba Sani's Executive Order on the 65-year retirement age for academic staff but noted that it falls short of their demands, as non-academic staff were excluded.

"JUTIKS is demanding the immediate implementation of the salary structure and the review of the Executive Order to include non-academic staff without additional conditions,"they said.

The union emphasised its commitment to working with the government to create a conducive working and learning environment in state-owned tertiary institutions.
