NANS demands immediate resignation of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over alleged corruption

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone A, has demanded the immediate and unconditional resignation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,  Nyesom Wike.

Addressing a press briefing on Friday in Kaduna, Ibrahim Bashir, NANS Zone 'A' Secretary General, described the allegations against Wike as a national embarrassment and a betrayal of public trust.

According to him, the call for resignation is not driven by politics but by a “documented failure of leadership, maladministration, and corruption allegations” that have tainted public confidence in the minister.

The students alleged that Wike and his family are linked to undisclosed assets, including multiple high-value properties in Florida, USA, reportedly acquired between 2021 and 2023 and transferred to his children.

He also cited public concerns surrounding the ownership of luxurious commercial properties, including a hotel in Port Harcourt, which they claim raises serious questions about the minister’s source of wealth.

Bashir further accused the FCT Minister of nepotism and abuse of office, alleging that high-value plots of land in Abuja were unlawfully allocated to family members and companies associated with his children.

He decried “flagrant maladministration” in land management, emphasising that such actions amount to a gross violation of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials.

He, therefore, issued an ultimatum, demanding that Wike resign from office by midnight on Monday, October 20, 2025, or face nationwide student protests.

The secretary general also warned that if the minister fails to comply, massive demonstrations would begin across the FCT and other strategic locations from October 27, 2025.

He emphasised that its movement represents the voice of the voiceless and vowed to resist any form of corruption or impunity that undermines Nigeria’s democratic integrity.

“We are the conscience of this nation, We will not relent until Nigeria is free from leaders who place personal gain above the collective good,"he said.
