The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria Nigeria (NYCN), has chided the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), while demanding the return of Mamman Mike Osuman back to his position as the forum’s chairman.
The ACF suspended Osuman as its Chairman for stating that the North would back a Northern Presidential Candidate in 2027.
Osuman, made the statement at the ACF’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on November 20, at ACF Headquarters in Kaduna.
Announcing the suspension of Osuman, the ACF described his comment as an ‘unauthorised statement’.
In a statement issued to newsmen on Saturday in Kaduna, the National President of the NYCN, Isah Abubakar, said it was a bad precedence that Osuman was suspended for telling the truth.
“It’s bad that we found ourselves in a situation where Northern leaders’ priorities selfish gain to the general growth and well-being of their people. What has the chairman said that is not the true reflection of what many could not say for fear of favour,” he said.
Abubakar added that Osuman boldness is what is needed at the critical situation the region has found it self, so as to push for intensional change.
“Osuman is bold enough to tell truth to power at the time everyone is afraid to do so, the ACF’s actions tells more of the reflection of present Northern Nigeria where everyone work for selfish interest.
“This was not the Northern Nigeria Prof. Ango Abdullahi, late Yusuf maitama Sule, late justice Mamma Nasir and late Chief Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi among others stood and sacrificed for. This is a new Northern Nigeria where every individual work for his personal interest and don’t care of what happened to others,” he lamented.
The NYCN National President therefore called on the NEC of the ACF to as a matter of urgency reverse their
decision and return Osuman back to his position, as well avoid anything that would further disgrace the organisation.
He said that failure of the ACF to reinstate Osuman would call for an action by the NYCN to mobilise and shut down the headquarters of the forum in kaduna in the coming days.
“We wish to assure the general public that nobody can silence any group or organisation that is ready to tell truth to power or bring facts to challenge the happening in our country. we shall continue to stand up for what we believe is right, anytime, any day,”Abubakar said.
