Northern Youth Council Demands Defence Chiefs' Resignation Over Northwest Killings

By Sani Idris Abdulrahman

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has condemned the heinous killings in the Northwest part of Nigeria, demanding the resignation of the defense chiefs.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna, the National President of the NYCN, Isah Abubakar, said the recent attacks on places of worship in Katsina and Zamfara states are a testament to a shocking failure of leadership and deep-seated institutional decay within Nigeria's security architecture.

He added that the Northwest has become a human abattoir, where criminal elements operate with impunity, laying siege to villages, abducting citizens, and desecrating sacred spaces.

Abubakar noted that the recent assault on a mosque in Katsina State, which killed at least 27 worshippers, was a horrifying example of the escalating violence.

He lamented that the security leadership has demonstrably failed to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians, leading to a catastrophic decline in security.

Abubakar however emphasized that the demand for the defence chiefs' resignation is not a matter of politics, but governance and the fundamental duty to protect human life.

The national president therefore demanded the immediate resignation or dismissal of the Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, and the Chief of Defence Staff.

He equally urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relieve them of their appointments and bring on board committed and competent individuals who can help end the menace.

Abubakar stressed that the lives of the people are what matter, and their safety must be the President's utmost priority.

He called on all well-meaning Nigerians to join the Northern Youth Council in demanding accountability and a decisive end to the bloodshed.
