The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the leading umbrella body representing the interests of young people across northern Nigeria, has strongly condemns the continued detention of Austin Ogai by the Kogi State Government.
In a statement on Sunday in Kaduna by Isah Abubakar, the National President of the NYCN, he said council viewed Austin Ogai's detention as a gross violation of his fundamental human rights and an affront to the principles of justice and democracy.
He, therefore, urged the Kogi State Government to immediately release Austin Ogai and respect the rule of law.
Abubakar, also called on the Kogi State Government to respect Austin Ogai's fundamental human rights and comply with the Nigerian Constitution and international human rights agreements.
"The governor of Kogi state should be reminded that leadership is transient and no position is permanent. Abuse of power shouldn't be part of his government.
"The NYCN remains committed to advocating for the rights and future of Northern youth. We urge all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, international bodies, and northern leaders, to join us in this fight for justice",he said.
