Marking the world tuberculosis (TB) day celebrated every March 24, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called for caution on the disease.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Kaduna by Abubakar Argungu, the Head, Media and Communication Unit of NOA in Kaduna on behalf of the agency's State Director, Mr Danjuma makama.
Makama said that TB is usually spread through coughs, sneezes, mucus, sharing of utensils or talking involving saliva.
He emphased the need for preventive measures such as ensuring good ventilation, covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing, and getting tested if symptoms persist.
He also stressed the importance of vaccination, especially for expectant mothers, and practicing good personal hygiene.
Makama noted that TB is curable with proper treatment and medication adherence, and early detection saves lives.
The NOA director urged the public to be cautious of TB, which affects millions of people worldwide.
He explained that TB is a major public health concern, and it requires collective efforts to prevent and control its spread.
Makama encouraged individuals to visit health facilities for regular check-ups and testing.
He also appealed to the public to support efforts to combat TB by promoting awareness and education.
The NOA director commended the federal and state governments for their efforts in combating TB and pledged the agency's continued support.
