The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has passed a vote of no confidence on the State Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle, while demanding for his immediate resignation.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Kaduna by Hussaini Shuaibu, the NYCN's Director of Public Affairs.
Shuaibu noted that the major responsibility of Government is securing the lives and properties of its citizens, stressing that no meaningful development can take place in the absence of assured security.
"Even the existing structures would not matter anymore to someone who is faced with multi faceted security challenges ranging from banditry, kidnappings leading to fear of going to the farms, cattle rustling, insurgencies and armed robbery etc. These and many more are the daily fears of Nigerian people, especially in the northern part and most especially Matawalle's State of Zamfara,"he said.
Shuaibu added that not withstanding Matawalle's inability as the then Chief Security Officer of Zamfara to bring an end to the menace of illegal mining activities in the State which is purely responsible for the crisis in the environs, he was compensated with the opportunity to administer the defense ministry.
"A position he has exploited judiciously to advance his banditry activities, illegal gold mining, and a gun running spree through his cronies and allies like Bashir Hadejia, who is presently in custody.
Other testimonies to the involvement of Matawalle in our predicaments are the confession of Emir of Gobir and the recent outburst of the popular bandit leader Bello Turji,"he lamented.
He therefore called on President Bola Tinubu to not only relieve Matawalle from his ministerial position but to also holistically investigate him and bring him to justice so as to serve as a deterrent to other wrong doers and to reaffirm to the citizenry that his Renewed Hope Agenda is truly committed to serving Nigeria and Nigerians.
"It is important to note that the youth of Northwest believe there are more competent and selfless people from the region that would serve as Minister of Defence than Bello Matewale. We advise him to voluntarily resign or be faced with mass actions of the youths,"Shuaibu vowed.
