Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has endorsed Ambassador Yerima Shettima as its consensus candidate for the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat.

The endorsement followed an extensive meeting and overnight deliberation by the Council’s leadership, which concluded that Shettima represents effective representation and youth-focused leadership.

In a statement on Wednesday in Kaduna by Isah Abubakar, National President of NYCN, the Council described the decision as the result of a thorough evaluation of Shettima’s track record in public service and advocacy.

Abubakar stated that the council recognised Shettima’s outstanding contributions to human capital development and his consistent advocacy for good governance and progress in Northern Nigeria.

“We unanimously adopted Ambassador Yerima Shettima as our consensus candidate,” he said.

Abubakar praised Shettima as a tireless voice for the voiceless and a credible representative capable of championing the interests of Kaduna Central in the Nigerian Senate.

He highlighted Shettima’s deep roots in Kaduna Central and his ongoing efforts to empower youth across the district through various development initiatives.

He said Shettima's commitment to social justice and community advancement reflects the values and aspirations of young people in the region.

The NYCN urged youths across Kaduna Central, irrespective of political differences, to rally behind Shettima to ensure his electoral success in 2027.

The Council also cautioned the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against any attempt to undermine Shettima’s senatorial ambition.

It warned that moves to frustrate the aspiration would be strongly resisted by its nationwide youth membership.

“We are prepared to mobilize our large youth base to support him, even if it means following him to another political platform,” it added.

The NYCN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting visionary and youth-oriented leadership across Nigeria.

It said the Council would continue to support leaders who prioritise development, inclusion, and effective representation.
