The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs,Kaduna State, Dr Sule Shu’aibu, has called for the establishment of mobile Courts to prosecute traffic violators.
The commissioner made the call at a Town Hall meeting organised by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, as part of the 2025 Ember Months Public Enlightenment Campaign.
Shu’aibu questioned why in spite of constant reminders about basic driving ethics and respect for other road users and repeated awareness campaigns, accidents continued to occur as though lessons were not being learnt.
He emphasised the need for such mobile courts to prosecute traffic violators and serve as a deterrent to others.
Shu’aibu commended the FRSC for its consistency and commitment.
He urged the participants to take the campaign’s message back to their communities, stressing that everyone must adhere to the basic etiquettes of driving.
Earlier, the Sector Commander, Kaduna State Command of FRSC, Tijjani Iliyasu, said the town hall meeting was to engage the stakeholders, security agencies, and human rights activists to raise awareness about road safety and mitigate potential problems.
Iliyasu said, “The importance of collaboration with stakeholders to achieve their mandate of ensuring free flow of traffic and reducing crashes.”
He said there was the need to educate drivers and road users about safe driving practices and the consequences of reckless behaviours.
According to him, the involvement of human rights activists was to emphasise the importance of protecting human life and the role of government in ensuring road safety.
Iliyasu added that the inclusion of religious leaders was to cite divine laws from the Holy Bible and Quran, emphasisng the importance of preserving life.
He said the FRSC’s was open to feedbacks and criticisms, encouraging the participants to share their thoughts on what the organisation was doing right or wrong.
Iliyasu stressed the need for collective action to address road safety challenges in Nigeria and promote a culture of responsible driving and respect for human life.
He revealed that a significant percentage of road accidents in the state were drug-induced, calling for collective efforts to change the worrying trend.
The commander shared tips such as avoiding speeding, overloading, and unnecessary night travels, as well as ensuring proper vehicle maintenance ; to reduce preventable road accidents and save lives.
The News Agency of NIgeria (NAN) report that the event was themed ‘Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Avoid Distractive Driving’.
NAN also reports that the participants at the town hall meeting included the officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Nigeria Police and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Others were officials of NEMA, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,NBA, NUPENG, corps members, Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, Human Rights Groups and religious leaders, among other critical stakeholders.
