The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, has enlightened entrepreneurs on trademark registration and intellectual property rights to boost Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The Director-General, Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), Mr Ibrahim Tukur-Jikamshi, said that the training was aimed at strengthening business protection and enhancing investor confidence.

He emphasised that the training aligned with the vision of Gov. Dikko Radda, under the “Building Your Future” agenda, which prioritised economic diversification, MSMEs development, and sustainable industrial growth.

Tukur-Jikamshi said that the agency conducted a comprehensive survey to identify challenges faced by existing entrepreneurs and investors.

According to him, their findings revealed that there was a low awareness of trademark registration procedures,

increasing cases of product imitation and counterfeiting.

Other challenges were

limited understanding of intellectual property enforcement mechanisms, and demand for simplified access to regulatory guidance and support.

In a remarks, Mr Idris Abdullahi-Ubale, from the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment said that trademark assist in differentiation, legal protection and brand identity.

He also spoke extensively on the relevance of copyright and design to entrepreneurs and manufacturers.
