The National Association of Resident Doctors, in Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, has suspended its seven -days warning strike.
The President of the chapter, Dr Josiah Yakubu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Kaduna.
Yakubu said the suspension followed an emergency congress virtually on Saturday, series of meetings and interventions particularly by the national and state leadership of the Nigeria Medical Association.
He said work would resume at the hospital by 8:00 a.m while other Residents Doctors at the hospital would resume by 10:00 a.m.
He urged all its members to resume work immediately with total commitment, and to ensure quality health service delivery as always and allow for the Government to holistically work towards addressing the lingering demands of the State doctors as it is sacrosanct in maintaining industrial harmony.
Yakubu added that the congress demand for immediate employment of resident doctors and house officers in order to address the challenges pose by the existing brain drain in the state.
He said the congress observed with appreciation the effort of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kaduna State Uba Sani in settling the recurrent industrial disharmony between the Resident Doctors and state government.
Yakubu also said the congress observed with appreciation the Executive Governors approval of the 2024 100 per cent CONMESS effective from Sept.1, 2025 and also the approval for reinstatement of bond for medical student.
He added that the congress observed with displeasure the shortage of Resident Doctors and House officers currently in the hospital.
The Congress appreciated the unwavering support of the National President of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Chairman of NMA, Kaduna state chapter, the President of Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), The Northwest caucus leadership of NARD and other stakeholders for ensuring that the lingering demands of the Association are given due consideration by the dtate Government.
He said the leadership will continue its usual advocacy in good faith to await implementation of 100 per cent CONMESS 2024 in September Salary.
"In the event the Government still fails to implement the above as is promised in September 2025 Salary, the Congress has instructed its leadership to, without delay, call for the immediate resumption of its suspended indefinite strike action.(NAN)
