Enhancing Communities Action for Peace and Better Health Initiative (e-CAPH) has launched a four-week nutrition and confectionery skill acquisition program in Kaduna, aimed at empowering 30 young women with vocational skills.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Kaduna, Executive Director of e-CAPH, Abdulmumin Aliyu, said the initiative was designed to foster financial independence and combat malnutrition in local communities, addressing a critical need in a region where access to nutritious food options has been limited.

Aliyu, emphasised the transformative potential of the program, saying that the skills gained  would transform the women's economic status and strengthen ability to support their families.

He said the training program focused on practical skills in baking, confectioneries, and the production of kunu, a traditional grain-based beverage, offering affordable and nutritious alternatives to combat malnutrition.

The Executive Director noted that the approach was particularly timely given the ongoing shortages of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in Kaduna and Nigeria, which had left gaps in treatment and contributed to malnutrition-related child deaths.

"By championing locally sourced and sustainable solutions, e-CAPH is working to bridge these gaps and create lasting impact,"he said.

Beyond food production skills, Aliyu disclosed that the participants would also receive training in digital marketing to enhance business visibility and education on sSexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) to strengthen awareness and advocacy in their communities.

he highlighted the inclusivity of the initiative, noting that priority would be given to survivors of gender-based violence and special provisions made for persons with disabilities.

He said the program was supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and implemented in collaboration with the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission.

Aliyu explained that the partnership underscored e-CAPH's broader mission to equip adolescent girls and young mothers with sustainable livelihood opportunities while addressing pressing health and social challenges in Kaduna communities.

"Through this initiative, e-CAPH is committed to improving health outcomes and promoting gender equality, leveraging technology, advocacy, and skills development to build community resilience.

"The organization is dedicated to creating lasting change and empowering young women to become agents of transformation in their communities,"he said.(NAN)
