Partnership for Leaning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), has donated 317, 882 piece of mathematics and English language text books to the Kaduna state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The books, written in Hausa language, were aimed at enhancing literacy and numeracy in the six intervention LGAs of plane across primary five and six pupils.
Flagging off the distribution of the text books on Wednesday in Kaduna, the Acting Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Mubarak Muhammad, said the textbooks were in modern language of Hausa because of the policy of learning in the mother tongue which has been found to be very effective.
This, he said, was why SUBEB had been exploring various avenues of ensuring that they get textbooks for its pupils in schools.
"We had in the past few months distributed thousands of copies for primary one to four. Now we are seeing the distribution of primaries five to six,"he said.
Apart from distribution of textbooks, the SUBEB boss said they have ensured continuous quality of teaching by training over 26,000 teachers in various aspects of school leadership, ICT, science, mathematics, among others.
"Now, more than ever we are pursuing teacher professional development rigorously. Very soon we will commence another round of teacher training and we are ensuring that all the teachers in primary schools equipped and given that technical know-how and knowledge on how to impart knowledge on our kids in schools,"he said.
On issues of instructional materials and teaching/learning materials, he said the distribution of the books were part of the solutions, disclosing that in few coming weeks SUBEB would also take delivery of over 150,000 copies of core textbooks in literacy and numeracy.
This, Muhammad said were very deliberate effort in improving education in tandem with governor Uba Sani's poise in making education his priority.
He assured the teachers of ongoing efforts to enhance their renumeration and other working conditions so as to keep up to the good work of delivering quality education to the children.
He thanked PLANE for their support in the state, urging all the LGAs to make judicious use of the text books for the betterment of childs education in Kaduna state.
The State Team Lead of PLANE, Mrs Diana Agabi, thanked the Kaduna state government for working tirelessly to ensure that all children are in school.
Agabi, represented by Musa Jimoh, PLANE's Results and Learning Manager, noted that their partnership with SUBEB is yielding results because the state has put in place the right learning environment.
He thanked the teachers across their six intervention LGAs for their hardwork, urging them to work harder for their benefits and that of the childrens future.
The Education Secretary, Kaduna North LGA, Mrs Fatima Sani, equally noted that PLANE were supportive.
She recalled that PLANE had sometimes donated 1,555 cartons of excercise books to the LGA.
She thanked them for the support, and pledged to use the books judiciously.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that PLANE is a United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)-funded programme, designed to drive inclusive education and improve learning outcomes in Nigeria.
