The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kaduna State Directorate, on Thursday, held a stakeholders' engagement to discuss critical issues affecting the country.
The Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the meeting is a conversation to listen to citizens' concerns and build a stronger Nigeria.
Issa-Onilu, represented by Mrs Olorunfemi Olubukola, the Director, Community Outreach and Development NOA Headquarters Abuja, said the agency's work focuses on five key areas fundamental to collective well-being.
He listed the areas to include national enlightenment on government policies, flood mitigation, national security awareness, national values reorientation, and national identity project.
"The NOA's campaign focuses on national security awareness, national values reorientation, flood mitigation, national identity project, and government policies. The agency aims to promote national development and unity among Nigerians,"he said.
The Director-General explained that the agency aims to equip citizens with knowledge to protect themselves and their families.
He emphasized the importance of citizens being informed about government policies and programs.
Issa-Onilu urged participants to listen, understand, and contribute to the discussion, emphasising that the agency seeks to build a stronger, more resilient Nigeria by working together with citizens.
He reaffirmed the agency's efforts aim to promote national development, unity, and patriotism among Nigerians.
"The campaign will run for two weeks, targeting 36 states and 774 local government areas,"he said.
Malam Hamisu Abubakar, the North-West Zonal Director of NOA, said the agency has a broad mandate to raise awareness, inform, and mobilize citizens to promote national development.
He noted that the campaign couldn't have come at a better time than now.
He called on Nigerians to participate in the campaign and provide feedback to help fine-tune government activities and programs.
"The agency will aggressively engage the public in the campaign over the next two weeks.
Earlier, Mr. Danjuma Makama, the Director, NOA Kaduna Directorate, highlighted the crucial areas to be discussed, including national values reorientation and flood mitigation.
He urged members of the public to look out for early warning advisories from NiMet and adhere to their advisories.
"The Presidential Flood Mitigation directive involved the release of N3 billion per state in 2024.
"The Nigerian Education Loan Fund was established to ensure that no qualified Nigerian is prevented from accessing tertiary education due to inability to pay school fees. Over 600,000 students have been onboarded, and over N59 billion has been disbursed so far,"he said.
One of the stakeholder, CSP Abubakar Umar, representative of the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, disclosed a significant arrest of criminals with dangerous firearms.
Umar Galadima of the Nigerian Correctional Service, emphasised the importance of security consciousness and called for support to aid the NOA in its mandate.
Hamza Makarfi, representing the Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University (KASU), commended the NOA for the dialogue.
He highlighted the need for discipline among Nigerians to address issues like flooding, pledging KASU's commitment to instilling discipline in future leaders.
Also, Abdulrahman Yakubu from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET),
stressed the importance of early warning systems for floods and urged citizens to take necessary precautions.
On his part, Muhammad Sulaiman from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) encouraged the media to continue enlightening the public about flood dangers and harmful practices.
