Female entrepreneur advises women to cultivate resilience, perseverance, and patience

A twenty-seven-year-old entrepreneurial, Halima Hamisu has advised women to cultivate resilience, perseverance, and patience to succeed in any chosen career.

Hamisu, a graduate of Science Laboratory Technology from the University of Jos, gave the advice in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) .

She is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hammy’s Collections, a thriving shoemaking factory based in Jos, Plateau state.

The entrepreneur said she chose the male dominated line of business because of her passion for fashion, and creativity.

According to her, the business she started with a small capital of N1,000 in 2020 has grown into a thriving brand attracting customers across Nigeria and beyond.

” My passion for fashion and creativity led me to train under a Plateau-based artisan Nazifi, where  i learnt to develop my her own style.

“My interest in this craft started from a deep love for fashion and creativity. I’ve always believed that style should be unique and bold, and shoes are one of the most powerful statements in fashion.

“I wanted a business where I could express my creativity while solving people’s real needs for stylish, comfortable, and durable footwear”,she said.

She explained that her brand, Hammy’s Collections officially started in 2020 and her first product was a casual shoe which was sold at ₦4,000 to a customer on social media.

Inspired by culture, trends, and even films, Hamisu told NAN that her brand was known for bold, original designs crafted from leather, suede, and lace.

She said, ” my products are unique signature designs that are hard to find anywhere else”, adding that every piece had her personal touch made to be stylish and long lasting.

Inspite of her hardwork and dedication to producing quality, comfortable and affordable shoes, the entrepreneur said she has  had to face challenges especially in her formative years.

“Some mocked me, saying I should be in my husband’s house instead of making shoes,” she recalled.

Hamisu said she once lost huge sum of money to a dishonest client in a bulk handbag order while facing gender-related challenges from people who doubted her skills, being a woman.

She, however, noted that her works more often spoken louder than their opinions, adding that persistence, patience, and careful partnerships had kept her business in steady progress.

“Today, Hammy’s Collection produces about 100 pairs monthly and trains about 10 aspiring shoemakers.

“My business has grown from a single ₦4,000 order to being recognised across Nigeria and beyond.

“I have e won awards like the CEO Under 30 (Manufacturing & Industry) in 2022”,she said.

Hamisu’s dream is to see her brand recognised globally and rated among the top fashion brands in the world In the next five to 10 years.

She also wants to open a massive, world-class fashion and shoemaking factory, employing skilled artisans and exporting high-end designs globally.

The fashion enthusiast advised other women starting a business to be patient, consistent, and passionate, noting that without passion, “business won’t last.

“One thing I wish I knew before starting is that shoemaking isn’t as simple as it looks.

“It’s not just cutting materials and assembling them, it requires patience, creativity, and consistency”,she said.(NAN)
