
It was an evening of euphoria as Commanders and Staff Officers of 1 Division Nigerian Army (NA), alongside Heads of Sister Services, gathered to honour the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj.-Gen. MLD Saraso, at a grand send-forth ceremony held at the Stallion Officers’ Mess Annex, Dalet Cantonment, Kaduna.
In his remarks, the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Maj Gen AK Ibrahim, traced the GOC’s journey back to his cadet days at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), recalling attributes he displayed that foreshadowed success.
He commended Maj Gen Saraso’s remarkable achievements despite the challenging security environment in Kaduna, particularly along Birnin Gwari axis and the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway.
Glowing tributes also came from the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Air Training Command (ATC), Air Vice Marshal AY Dari, President of Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers Association (RANAO), Kaduna State Chapter, Commodore Sam Ojediran (Rtd), Director Department of State Services Kaduna State Command, Mr Hakeem Abiola, and former Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Comrade Samuel Aruwan.
Other notable tributes were delivered by Prof JM Nwaedoeze, a Professor and former Head of Chemistry Department at NDA; Maj Gen POA Okoye, the Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Minna, also a Coursemate to the outgoing GOC, as well as several Field Commanders, Commanding Officers and Staff Officers of the Division.
In his emotional vote of thanks, Maj.-Gen Mayirenso Lander Saraso admitted he was overwhelmed by the large turnout, describing himself as “lucky" to have served in such capacity.
He expressed gratitude to all present particularly to his wife for her understanding and patience while being away from home, he also appreciated those who made the occasion a success, wishing his incoming successor, Maj Gen ASM Wase, even greater success ahead.
Also delivering a vote of thanks, the Chief of Staff 1 Division, Brig Gen David Nwakonobi, described the outgoing GOC as an indelible leader whose impact would be long remembered in 1 Division.
He thanked invited guests for honouring the occasion despite their tight schedules.
As parting memories, Maj Gen Saraso presented gifts to his Commanders, Commanding Officers and Staff Officers, urging them to extend the same loyalty and support to the incoming GOC.
