The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has insisted on suspension of the Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike until the end of the investigation ordered by President Bola Tinubu.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna by Isah Abubakar, President of the NYCN (08030891777, 08067811207), and his Deputy Publicity Secretary, Aliyu Muhammad (08034889428)
Tinubu had ordered that Wike be probed over allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and allocation of properties in the Federal Capital worth 3.6 billion dollars to his son Joaquin.
They said that they have written to relevant security agencies including the DSS, Police and to the office of the SGF notifying them of the NYCN's resolve to go ahead with a protest in 10 working days if Wike is not suspended or stepped down while the investigation is going on.
"A probe is not enough, he should be out of the picture until the investigation ends. We are not saying he is guilty, but he cannot be a jury or judge in his own case,"they said.
According to the NYCN, their decision to call on Wike to step aside is to allow for an unbiased, thorough, and transparent investigation into the allegation, given its gravity and the negative consequences it has on the Renewed Hope Agenda which the Tinubu's administration is fighting against corruption and embezzlement of funds by public office holders.
"While we believe in the ability of the SGF’s office to coordinate and handle this probe, the intervention of anti-graft and security agencies to throw in their expertise and long-acquired experience is needed to speed up the investigation process and ensure justice and fairness,".
The NYCN appreciated the President for his fatherly intervention, early and reactive response by ordering a probe into the allegations.
They however, said as a Civil Society Organisation, they would not relent but remain consistent in advocating for the truth, transparency and justice for all.
"We will continue to fight for the masses for as long as possible until Nigerian is great again,"they said.
