NOA, NPHCDA Launch Measles-Rubella Vaccine Awareness Campaign in Kaduna

The National Orientation Agency and National (NOA) and the National Primary HealthCare Development Agency (NPHCDA) in collaboration with Centre for Wellbeing and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (CWINS), has launched a Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine awareness campaign in Kaduna.

The campaign aims to mobilise stakeholders ahead of the nationwide vaccine rollout in October 2025. 

At a one-day town hall meeting held respectively in Kaduna South and Kaduna North LGAs on Monday 28TH July, 2025 at Government Girls Secondary School Maimuna Gwarzo, Tudunwada,  Kaduna and Wednesday 30th July, 2025 At PHC, Unguwan Shanu Dutse Close, the State Director, NOA Kaduna Directorate, Mr. Danjuma Makama, said the critical engagement aims to mobilise stakeholders to understand Measles-Rubella and drive collective support.

Makama explained that the primary mandate of the NOA is to raise awareness and provide feedback on government programs to change attitudes and behaviors.

He noted that the Measles-Rubella vaccine is safe, free, and effective for children aged 9 months to 14 years.

"It will later be part of routine immunization at 9 and 15 months.

"Rubella can cause birth defects like blindness, deafness, and heart issues if contracted during pregnancy. Measles can also be deadly, causing pneumonia, brain swelling, and death in children," he said.

Makama, therefore, restated the agency's commitment to continue community engagements to drive awareness for Measles-Rubella.

Also, the Executive Chairman Kaduna South LGA, Alhaji Rayyan Hussain, expressed appreciation for choosing Kaduna South LGA and gave assurance for his full support during the vaccination campaign.

Also, the wife of the Chairman Kaduna North LGA, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, appreciated NOA, NPHCDA, and CWINS for organizing the town hall meeting and expressed her readiness to join hands in the campaign.

The meeting, brought together key stakeholders from the health sector, religious and traditional institutions, market and women leaders, youth representatives, and community gatekeepers.

The NOA, Kaduna State Directorate and NPHCDA urged all stakeholders to join hands in promoting Measles-Rubella messages.

Participants at the town hall meeting included traditional rulers, religious leaders, women and youth groups, and the media, among others.

Presentations were made by critical stakeholders, including objectives of the town hall meeting, what is Measles Rubella, Measles outbreak, and MeV/Rubella Vaccine Introduction Campaign in Nigeria.

The Role of Stakeholders in the Measles/Rubella vaccination campaign was also discussed. 

The NOA, urged all stakeholders to visit the nearest health center for more information and protect their children with Measles-Rubella vaccine. 

The agency, believes that with collective support, the Measles-Rubella vaccine awareness campaign can achieve its goals and make a positive difference in the lives of Nigerian children.
