The Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), has on Tuesday sensitised commercial motorcyclists, farmers, butchers and bricklayers in Kudan LGA on the importance of enrolling into the state's contributory health scheme.

Others sensitised were ward development committees, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), women groups, among others.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that KADCHMA, on July 21st, flaged off the informal sector enrollment campaign at Kudan LGA.

NAN also reports that the exercise, which would also be flaged off at Kagarko and Chikun LGAs, is also expected to be carried out all across the 23 LGAs of the state.

It was supported by  EngerderHealth Consortium, International Society for Media in Public Health (ISMPH), Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI) and Legislative Advocacy Initiative for Sustainable Development Goals (LISDEL).

The Director-General (D-G) of KADCHMA, Abubakar Hassan, said the sensitisation was aimed at educating the groups on the importance of enrolling in the health scheme.

Hassan, emphasised the need for the groups to understand the benefits of the health scheme, which include access to quality healthcare services without financial hardship.

He noted that the initiative is part of  governor Uba Sani's rural transformation agenda, which aims to cater the needs of underserved and unserved people, particularly in rural areas.

The D-G lamented the high number of maternal mortality, noting that the N10,650 individual annual charge fee covers numerous diseases including services such as antenatal till birth, with or without complications.

By targeting informal sector groups, the D-G said the scheme aims to provide financial protection against unexpected medical expenses and improve access to quality healthcare services for the informal group.

He, therefore urged the participants to become enrollment ambassadors.

The participants, expressed their gratitude to KADCHMA for organising the sensitisation, which has enlightened them on the benefits of the health scheme.

They pledged to spread the word about the scheme to their colleagues and friends.

The participants also commended the state government for its commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of its citizens, particularly those in the informal sector, through the health scheme.

One of them, Sunusi Jibril, a commercial motorcyclist, said;

"I never knew that I could access quality healthcare services at such an affordable rate. I am definitely going to enroll in the scheme to protect myself and my family,"he said.

Also, a farmer, Sani Ishaq, said he is exposed to various risks and injuries.

He, therefore, said the health scheme would provide him with the necessary financial protection and access to quality healthcare services when he needed it most.

NAN reports that the D-G, visited the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Kudan, where he also sensitised women to the importance of enrolling into the scheme.

He equally met with Sabon Gari LGA markets union leaders, to elicit their buy-in to the health scheme.(NAN)
