Prepare for retirement 7-years ahead, don urges Katsina workers

By Abbas Bamalli

A lecturer with the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina, Prof. Kabir Matazu, on Sunday, urged civil servants to start early preparation for their retirement, so as to avoid surprises.

Matazu gave the advice at a reception to honour Alhaji Mustapha Wada, a former Director of Protocol to Gov. Aminu Masari.

Wada retired as a Permanent Secretary.

According to Matazu, early planning is key to a smooth and financially secure transition into life after work, adding that many retirees face avoidable challenges due to poor preparation.

According to him, retirement should not come as a surprise but as a well-planned phase that allows individuals to maintain stability and purpose.

He explained that early preparation enables civil servants to make informed decisions about savings, investments, healthcare, and alternative sources of income.

The lecturer also encouraged civil servants to acquire new skills and consider ventures they could pursue after retirement, while urging government to initiate a retirement training for workers.

Also speaking, former Katsina head of service, Alhaji Lawal Aliyu-Daura, commended the celebrant for his dedication to service, and also philanthropic activities across the state.

He described Wada as a lucky and successful civil servant who scaled through various cadres on merit.

In his remarks, Wada thanked family members, friends and well-wishers for organising the reception, and pledged to continue with his philanthropic activities even after retirement.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wada also holds the traditional title of Dandoton Katsina.
