Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Senator Nenadi Usman led Labour Party on Wednesday unveiled a schedule of activities aimed at pooling 10 million new and re-registered members into the party.
The party at the inauguration of the national steering committee for membership revalidation, new registration and unveiling of the nationwide membership mobilisation drive tagged Labour Party connect 10 million Nigerians disclosed that the move which kick-started on 17 December, will be followed by a World Congress slated for 13 January 2026.
This will be followed by local government congress set for January 17, state congress on 24 January, zonal congress scheduled for January 31, and the national convention which would take place on 28 February 2026.
Speaking through Zoom to members during the event which held at LP national Secretariat in Abuja, interim national chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, stressed that the party “considers it both necessary and strategic to reposition, reorganise, and strengthen itself for the bigger responsibilities and opportunities that lie ahead.”
She revealed that her leadership had considered expanding and consolidating the party’s membership base as one of my foremost priorities, as she lamented that the problems which rocked the LP posed as a problem in realizing such goal.
“However, with the launch today and the newly approved timetable, I am confident that we will not only recover lost ground but emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the task ahead,” she added.
She explained, “As we are all aware, our party - like many opposition political platforms in Nigeria - has, in recent times, passed through a period of intense challenges and distractions. I am pleased to state that the majority of these issues have been decisively resolved by the courts, while the few remaining matters are still before the judiciary. We remain confident that they too will soon be conclusively settled in the interest of justice and democracy.
“I therefore call on all existing members of our great party to take full advantage of this exercise to revalidate their membership. I also warmly invite all Nigerians of goodwill, especially those who believe in good governance, social justice, accountability, and people-oriented leadership, to seize this opportunity to register and formally become members of the Labour Party.
“As clearly outlined in the schedule of activities, this exercise will run from now through to 20th January, 2026, across all wards, LGAs and states of the Federation
In conclusion, let me reassure Nigerians that the Labour Party remains steadfast in its commitment to serving as a credible, people-driven political alternative. I urge you all to continue to place your hope and confidence in the Labour Party as the vehicle for rescuing our nation from the shackles of poor leadership and restoring dignity, opportunity, and prosperity to the Nigerian people.”
