…Hails Gov Fintiri over Clemency to Adamawa’s Jackson

The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria has urged leaders to use Christmas as a turning point for justice and security, warning Nigeria cannot continue bleeding from terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
In a Christmas message by its Chairman, Rev. Joseph Hayab and Secretary General Bishop Mohammed Naga, the Northern CAN called for transparent investigations into sponsors and financiers of terror nationwide.
The association said lasting peace would remain elusive unless those funding violent crimes are exposed, prosecuted and punished in line with the law.
Northern CAN said Christmas offers Nigerians an opportunity for sober reflection on the nation’s moral conscience and social direction beyond festivities.
It said Christmas calls the nation to peace, justice, compassion and respect for human life, reminding citizens that security is built on moral courage and collective responsibility.
The association acknowledged hardship faced by many Nigerians, commending individuals, faith-based organisations and community leaders supporting vulnerable citizens with palliatives during the festive season.
It described such gestures as reflections of enduring values of love, compassion and shared responsibility within society.
On security, Northern CAN praised the Armed Forces and security agencies for sacrifices in defending lives and property across the country.
It urged them to remain resolute until insecurity is decisively addressed and Nigerians can live and sleep in safety and peace.
Northern CAN said terrorism, banditry and kidnapping have inflicted immense pain on families and communities, leaving scars many may never fully recover from.
The association welcomed the Federal Government’s designation of kidnappers, bandits and violent criminal groups as terrorists.
It said the designation strengthens the national security framework and shows firm commitment to confronting insecurity with the seriousness it demands.
On justice, Northern CAN applauded Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for granting clemency to Sunday Jackson, a Christian farmer sentenced to death after a violent farm attack.
It described the conviction as a miscarriage of justice, saying the governor’s intervention restored confidence in fairness and the rule of law.
Northern CAN said clemency affirms that self-defence in mortal danger should not be criminalised while terrorists and their advocates roam freely.
The association called on leaders to uphold justice, equity and rule of law, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and committed to peaceful coexistence.
It urged Nigerians to support leaders, pray for national healing and work collectively for a safer, more just and united country.
