By Sani Idris

The Executive Secretary (ES) of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof Idris Bugaje, has said that unbundling of courses is a continuous process to the board.

Bugaje said this at a pre-critque and critique
workshops for the development of Higher National Diploma (HND) curricula options in: Environmental health (8 options), public health (3 options),
epdemiology and disease control (3 options) and water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) (2 options)

It was organised by the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) in collaboration with the NBTE.

In his address, the ES of NBTE, Prof Idris Bugaje, thanked the EHCON for funding the unbundling process, while urging other professional regulatory bodies on doing same in collaboration with the NBTE to work out better curricula.

According to him, in recent times, skill are becoming super specific with specialisation all over.

This, he said made unbundling a continuous process to the NBTE.

"We have done unbundling in mass communication, computer science and now on environmental health,"he said.

He hoped that other areas would be gradually unbundled so as HND level in different specialisations would be produced to meet the contemporary challenges of the 21st century.

Describing health as wealth, Bugaje said it is one of the most important area the NBTE puts attention to so as to develop robust programmes that could meet the demands of the industry.

Earlier in a welcome remarks, the NBTE's Director, Curriculum Development Department, Dr. Hatim Koko, said the curriculum review excercise was coming to end.

He urged the facilitators to continue the good work, adding that it would be beneficial to the board, EHCON and educational/skills development in Nigeria.(NAN)
