The Kaduna State Ministry of public Work and Infrastructure has begin a two day advocacy and sensitisation workshop for designation of urban sanitation authority.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the workshop on the ‘Advocacy and Sensitization on the Designation of Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC) as the State Urban Sanitation Authority’ is under the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (SURWASH) Program.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Work and infrastructure , Abdu Na Abdul Ashiru welcome all participants and wished them meaningful deliberations.
Ashiru said the workshop will focused on critical issues that will provide solutions
for effective urban sanitation management.
"Today, we gather to discuss a critical issue that affects us all: the provision of an effective urban sanitation services.
" During this workshop, we will engage in discussions, share experiences, and explore strategies for effective urban sanitation management.
He said they will delve into the rationale behind this designation, exploring the benefits it will bring to our communities and examine how this move will strengthen KADSWAC's capacity to deliver efficient and sustainable urban sanitation services.
He added that the SURWASH program is part of the effort to ensuring access to clean water and improved sanitation to create a more sustainable and livable environment for all citizens of the State.
He said achieving the goal requires a cohesive and well-structured institutional framework.
" The designation of KADSWAC as the State Urban Sanitation Authority is a critical step in streamlining the PIR plan to ensure effective management of urban sanitation services.
"This workshop is not merely a formality; it is an opportunity for open dialogue, constructive feedback, and collaborative decision-making.
"We encourage you to actively participate, share your perspectives, and contribute to the development of a robust and sustainable urban sanitation framework.
"Your expertise and insights are invaluable as we forge a unified approach to addressing the challenges of urban sanitation.
"Similarly, the participation of the Chairmen of Chikun, Igabi, Jaba, Jema’a, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Soba, Sabon Gari and Zaria Local Government Areas is vital.
"These LGAs are at the forefront of service delivery, and their understanding and support are essential for the successful implementation of this program.
"I would like to extend my gratitude to our partners, stakeholders, and participants for your presence and contributions to this important discussion.
" Furthermore, the contributions of our partner agencies, who have consistently demonstrated their dedication to improving water and sanitation services, are highly appreciated.
"Together, we can make a meaningful impact and create a better future for the citizens of Kaduna State. Let us work together to ensure that every citizen of Kaduna State has access to clean water and a safe, healthy environment." He said
Also speaking,the Director Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure, Hashimu Ja'afaru
said the primary purpose of the workshop is to advocate for and raise awareness about the strategic importance of designating the Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC) as the Urban Sanitation Authority.
"This designation aims to enhance urban sanitation management, promote public health, and ensure sustainable environmental practices in the State.
He listed other objectives to include:
Educating Stakeholders: Increase understanding among key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, policymakers, and the general public, about the critical role KADSWAC can play in urban sanitation.
"To Build Consensus: Foster dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to build consensus on the necessity and benefits of this designation for improved sanitation governance.
" To Advocate for Policy Support: Mobilize support for the necessary legislative and policy frameworks required to formalize KADSWAC's role as the Urban Sanitation Authority.
He also said the workshop is to Highlight Public Health and Environmental Benefits: Demonstrate the positive impact of enhanced urban sanitation on public health, environmental sustainability, and overall quality of life.
" This workshop also aims at addressing
Challenges and Opportunities.we shall Identify potential challenges and opportunities associated with the transition and develop actionable strategies for effective implementation.
"By achieving these objectives, the workshop aims to lay a solid foundation for improved urban sanitation systems, contributing to the sustainable development goals and better living standards for residents of Kaduna State.(NAN)
