As the Local Government (LG) elections draws closer, the People's Redemption Party (PRP), has kicked against two million naira fees imposed by the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM), for LG Chairmanship forms, tagging it as 'exorbitant'.
Abubakar Muhammad, a member of the PRP stakeholders committee, in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Kaduna, said the imposition of the high amount by KADSIECOM is an indirect negative response to the supreme court's judgement on the autonomy of the local government.
He noted that the LG has been a reservoir for state government to fetch money without due process and accountability.
Muhammad equally said the judgement of the supreme court does not harmonize with their selfish interest, however being a welcome development politically considering the fact that the local government is more close to the the masses and has more impact on them.
"The imposition of two million naira for chairmanship is too huge at this point in time that the country is facing economic crisis. they have monetized politics and make it a venture rather than a platform to serve the masses,"he lamented.
Muhammad, on behalf of the PRP stakeholders committee in the state, called on well meaning individuals and parties to come out and oppose the indirect imposition of the state government, stating that INEC does not impose money.
He also called on the government to reverse the decision, stating that it is undemocratic particularly at a point where the country is in need of credible leadership.
"Leadership is serving the people, not business. for PRP in Kaduna, we have resolved to take a responsible step to restore democracy in the state by not allowing the government to disenfranchised the masses,"Muhammad said.
