A Renowned Islamic scholar in Nigeria, Kabiru Gombe, has delivered a powerful sermon to millions of Nigerian pilgrims before gathering at the plain of Arafat, urging governments worldwide to alleviate the financial burden of Hajj for citizens.
Gombe emphasized the importance of facilitating access to the sacred journey, citing the Prophet's teaching that "Hajj is a duty for those who have the means."
He appealed to governments to reduce costs, simplify procedures, and provide support for pilgrims, especially from low-income backgrounds.
"Pilgrims should not be burdened by exorbitant fees and expenses," Gombe said.
"Let us work together to make Hajj a reality for all, regardless of financial means."
Gombe however, acknowledged the Nigerian Government, state Governors and other actors who played critical role in providing subsidy for pilgrims, while calling for more efforts in the same line to ensure affordability.
He noted that subsidizing the Hajj fare is also beneficial to the Government because the pilgrims would also pray for the properity of the Nation.
The general sermon at Arafat, resonated with pilgrims from diverse countries, many of whom face significant financial hardships to fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam.
Gombe's call to action sparked a chorus of applause and supplications, with pilgrims imploring governments to heed the scholar's words.
As the Hajj 2024 season reaches its climax, Gombe's sermon has ignited a global conversation on making the pilgrimage more accessible and inclusive for all Muslims.
