The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), has urged the Katsina State Government to ensure a quality drainage system in the state to effectively prevent flooding during the rainy season.
The Chairman of the coalition, Mr Abdulrahman Abdullahi, made the call on Sunday, shortly after the inspection of some ongoing road projects in Katsina metropolis.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abdullahi, alongside other top members of the coalition, went round to see the quality of the ongoing projects.
Abdullahi further said that a quality drainage system would assist in protecting communities from the destructive effects of water inundation
According to him, the dualisation of the WTC Roundabout to Kofar Soro Road, is important not only to the people of the area, but to the entire motorists using the road.
He said that in spite of its importance, without proper attention to the drainages coming out from the adjoining houses, the residents would seriously face challenges anytime it rains.
Abdullahi said: “Some of the residents of these areas had raised concern about the height of the road, which places their houses deep below it.
“According to them, if necessary action is not taken, especially by providing relief drainage, they will experience serious flooding during the rainy period.
“We, therefore, appeal to Gov. Dikko Radda to visit the area, especially around Lugga House, and Kiddies Roundabout to Kofar Marusa.
“The assessment visit will enable the Governor to interact with the residents for him to personally know their complaints.”
The coalition also called on the contractor handling the road project to speed up its completion, so as to prevent flooding and other inconveniences during the rainy season.
The CSOs also called on the government to plant trees along the newly constructed 24km Bola Tinubu Eastern Bypass.
