Nigerian Army Officers' Wives Association (NAOWA) Jaji Chapter on Tuesday joined children across the world in celebrating Children's Day, May 27, urging parents, teachers and society to be committed to listening to the children, providing them with quality education, keeping them safe and encouraging their dreams.
The theme of this year's event was " Celebrating the future by preserving the child's rights, reminds us that every child deserves love, respect, and the opportunity to shine".
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH) who is the Commander Infantry Corps ( CIC) , Major General Usman Yusuf ably represented by the Chief of Staff (COS) Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre ( HQ ICC) Brigadier General Akinola Owolabi promised to ensure an enabling environment for children in Jaji Military Cantonment (JMC) to thrive and reach their full potentials by providing quality education, healthcare, and a safe environment.
The SGOH commended the children for their good conduct, discipline and efforts towards academic excellence, urging them to keep up the good work and continuing striving for greatness.
Major General Yusuf acknowledged and appreciated the dedication and hard work of teachers in the schools within the JMC , saying their efforts at providing quality education is commendable and will not be in vain.
The CIC further thanked parents for prioritizing their children's education, emphasising that their contributions are not only shaping the children 's personal development but also contribute to the growth and progress of our nation.
The SGOH thanked the Coordinator NAOWA Jaji Chapter, Barrister Rakiya Yusuf and NAOWA officials for their leadership that continues to support the smooth functioning of schools in JMC.
He emphasized the importance of nurturing these children with love, care and encouragement, noting that the children are not just the future of the Armed Forces and our nation but also the future of humanity.
In her remarks, the Coordinator NAOWA, Jaji Chapter, Mrs Rakiya Yusuf expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the CIC for his support to the NAOWA Jaji Chapter, significant impacts and commitments to the welfare of the children in JMC.
Yusuf stated that the dreams, laughter and endless curiosity of the children light up the world, calling on parents, teachers and society at large to preserve the rights of every child, no matter where they live.
She further urged all parents and teachers to provide a strong foundation for building the children's future.
The Coordinator used the occasion to launch a Disaster Risk Reduction Club for pupils in collaboration with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North West Zone and Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Kaduna State Branch.
Highlights of the event include March Past, Cultural Display, Dance Competition, Launching of a Disaster Risk Reduction Club for pupils, presentation of Gifts and Awards which culminated into group photograph to mark the end of the event.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion are the Director, Combat Equipment HQ ICC Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, Zonal Director NEMA, North West Zone, Mr Ishaya Chinoko, School Unit Coordinator, NRCS, Kaduna State Branch, Mr Hassan Ahmed, Deputy Chief of Staff, HQ ICC Colonel Ewongulu Yahaya, Representative of the Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Commander Babangida Ja'afaru, Representative of the Commandant Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major Bitrus Alfred, Members of NAOWA Jaji Chapter among others.
