The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), has sealed banks and other business presmises within the Kaduna metropolis for Land Use Charge (LUC) debt of 1.7bn.
The KADIRS also sealed the prominent Hamdala hotel for N115 million debt on LUC.
The banks and other businesses sealed were Unity bank; FCMB, Zenith, Bank of Agriculture (BOA), Chicken Republic, all within Yakubu Gowon way.
Others were; Forte oil, New Nigeria Development Company, GT Bank parking lot, A.G. Leventis building and Keystone bank PLC.
Speaking to newsmen at the sideline on Tuesday in Kaduna, Aysha Ahmad, the Board Secretary and Legal Adviser of the KADIRS, said the enforcement excercise was based on provisions of the law.
She noted that the enforcement was in KADIRS exercise of its powers vested in it by section 104 of Personal Income Tax Act, and Section 24 sub- sections (1,2 and 3) of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020 as amended.
Ahmad explained that the accumulated land based revenue (LUC) liabilities was established by the Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) .
She said the service had sent demand notices to the businesses, which did not yield positive responses or compliance, where they resort to enforcement to collect what is due for the state.
The KADIRS Board Secretary disclosed that the service would use the whole week for the enforcement excercise.
She also disclosed that the service secured court order for the immediate closure and taking over of the entire properties until all unpaid land based revenue liabilities are settled.
She called on tax payers to comply voluntarily, stressing that the service would go round the major cities to ensure compliance.(NAN)
