Federal Health Institution Nurses Demands Improved Working Conditions
By Sani Idris
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Federal Health Institutions (NANNM-FHI) Sector, has demanded improved working conditions.
The improved working conditions are payment of their outstanding allowances, and resolution of pressing issues affecting nurses and midwives across federal health institutions.
The demands, were made in a communique by the association after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting signed by Morakinyo Rilwan, the National Chairman, and Enya Osinachi, its National Secretary and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna.
The duo said that, after extensive deliberations, the NEC adopted several resolutions, including demands for negotiations with the Federal Government (FG) to address unresolved issues.
They expressed disappointment with the lack of tangible outcomes from the recent meeting between the National Administrative Council (NAC) and FG representatives.
They therefore called for the immediate resumption of negotiations to address issues such as the provision of adequate working tools and manpower, payment of arrears, and proper implementation of the minimum wage.
They also demanded the payment of 7 months' 2023 25 per cent peculiar allowances, wage award arrears, and minimum wage consequential adjustment.
Furthermore, they called on the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) to urgently resolve persistent issues regarding Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) deductions and non-remittance of dues.
The association also demanded the centralisation and timely payment of uniform allowances through the OAGF, with full integration into the IPPIS system.
Additionally, they called for an urgent revision of nurse interns' salaries to reflect the newly approved entry point for graduate nurses.
They commended the dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment of Nigerian nurses and midwives, particularly those serving in federal health institutions.
"In spite of numerous challenges, these professionals continue to deliver quality healthcare services with excellence and professionalism.
"We recognise the invaluable contributions of nurses and midwives as indispensable pillars of the Nigerian healthcare system and called on all stakeholders to prioritise their welfare, professional development, and overall support".
The association expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for implementing the new national minimum wage to alleviate economic hardship faced by Nigerian workers.
They also congratulated Nigerian nurses and the National Secretariat of NANNM on the successful conclusion of the National Delegates Conference (NDC), which facilitated the emergence of the new national leadership.
Additionally, they congratulated Mr. Ndagi Alhassan on his appointment as the Ag. Registrar/Executive Secretary of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.(NAN)
