Kaduna SUBEB train teachers on pupils literacy

In a bid to improve learning among pupils in Kaduna state,
the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB), has launched a capacity building workshop for teachers in nine Local Governments in the state.

The workshop, Teaching at The Right Level (TaRL), is a foundational literacy and numeracy teaching methodology that helps pupils learn how to read and write with ease.

It classified the pupils according to level of their literacy and numeracy understanding such as alphabet identification, words formation and reading of phrases or sentences.

NAN recalled that in 2022, UNICEF provided funding to support KADSUBEB to implement the program in Ikara Local Government and later expanded to Kaduna South and Jaba local governments respectively.

At the training on Tuesday in Kaduna, the training, the KADSUBEB Acting Chairman, Mubarak Muhammad, said the training becomes imperative owing to the literacy gap among pupils in primary schools who could neither read nor write across the state.

Muhammad stated that the program was approved in November 2023, but was not carried out due to one reason or the other.

The acting chairman called on the teachers to leverage the opportunity to enhance their capacity to teach the pupils in the state.

He thanked Governor Uba Sani for approving the program.

Speaking to newsmen at the sideline of the program, the Education Secretary of Kaduna North Local Government, Hajiya Fatima Sani, described the training as important, adding that she would step it down to other teachers in her local government.

The training program in currently ongoing in Igabi, Kaduna North, Zaria, Lere, Sanga and Jema’a local government of the state.(NAN)
