A total of 108 secondary school students in Katsina State are participating in science practical and debate competition organised by the wife of the state Governor, Hajiya Zulaihat Radda.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the science competition commenced on Wednesday in Katsina.
Malam Abdullahi Jibril, the Executive Director, Ash-Shifa Social Development, Education and Awareness Initiative, who are conducting the exercise, said the students were drawn from the 12 educational zones in the state.
“In our research, we have come to realise that most students nowadays pay more attention only to games and social media activities.
“This has contributed to the backwardness of their education, especially in the area of science.
“Therefore, we saw the need to contribute our quota towards boosting their knowledge, especially in this aspect,” he said.
Jibril said that the competition would enable the students to showcase the depth of their knowledge in science practical and their challenges.
He said that government should use the opportunity to support the student and their teachers, including the provision of more science practical facilities to ease teaching and learning.
