The National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Thursday said it had sensitized 60 communities in six local government areas of Kaduna State on the importance of birth registration.
Zubair Galadima-Soba, NOA’s State Director made this known during a media briefing on the conduct of community reorientation and grassroots dialogue to promote birth registration and that of children under five, in Kaduna.
The program was organized by NOA in collaboration with the National Population Commission (NPC) with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
He said the community dialogue which lasted five days, was organized to raise awareness on the importance of birth registration and information on how to improve the exercise.
“A total of 2,400 community members were reached in 60 communities of Jema’a, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun,Igabi and Sabon Gari local government areas.
“The outcome of community dialogue was successful as there was an impressive turnout of community members to register their children,” he said.
Earlier, Hajiya Adama Uthman, the NPC Director in the state, said that the commission was able to register 13,023 children in the six LGAs.
“We were at the grassroot with the National Orientation Agency during the 5-day reorientation of local communities where we registered children.
“We got information of the children from parents while filling the B1 form and issued them a birth certificate.
“In Sabongari LGA, we registered 2,902 children, 849 children were registered in Jema’a LGA, 2,000 in Chikun LGA, 2,239 in Igabi LGA, in Kaduna South LGA 1,879 were registered while 3,154 were registered in Kaduna North LGA”, she said. (NAN)
