Kaduna makeup artists convene to tackle industry challenges, foster unity

No fewer than 15 professional makeup artists in Kaduna hosted an event on Sunday in Kaduna metropolis, Kaduna State, with the theme, “Fostering Unity Among Artists.”

The event was organized with the aim of tackling challenges in the industry and gaining more knowledge by exchanging ideas, tips, and hacks that would enhance their profession.

Mardiya Muhammad, one of the organizers and a makeup artist, explained the beauty of makeup on a woman, saying it boosts her confidence and enhances her beauty.

“We are supposed to be familiar with ourselves and be there for each other as artists. People do not give makeup the value it is supposed to have, which is why most beginners tend to give up,” she said.

She further mentioned how most makeup artists struggle to afford makeup products, how clients refuse to pay adequately for their services, and how the art is not appreciated by many.

“This kind of event is supposed to be organized at least once a year, so we can share and exchange ideas, advice, and even tackle challenges among ourselves,” she said.

Muhammad further said that artists who do not own studios are underestimated because people think they are not credible.

She advised upcoming makeup artists to be consistent with their work and to frequently seek upgrades to improve their skills.

One of the attendees, Fadila Ado, explained that as an upcoming artist, she had faced a lot of challenges in the industry.

“Coming here today, I have gotten a lot of support from my fellow makeup artists. Advice has been given, and some corrections have been made. I am really glad I was able to attend the event,” she said.

Khadija Sani, an attendee, said she had never been part of an event like this, where people share their experiences about their profession, adding that she enjoyed it.

“My advice to beginners is that they should be patient. This is a profession that requires patience and determination, but with consistency, they will get there,” she said.

Hafsat Mustapha, also a participant, said she hopes the event would continue and grow into something all makeup artists would be proud of. (NAN)
