Northern Pulse: CAS Charges 252 AFCSC graduates to embrace innovation, integrity in tackling Security Challenges

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, charged 252 graduating officers of Junior Course 101 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, to uphold integrity, embrace innovation and apply their training in addressing emerging security challenges.

Aneke gave the charge at the graduation ceremony of the course in Jaji, Kaduna State on Thursday.

He urged the officers to rely on their training, foster teamwork and demonstrate ethical leadership in moments of uncertainty and operational challenges.

“True leadership is demonstrated not merely through authority, but through ethical conduct, consistency and the ability to inspire confidence in those you lead.

“Your credibility will not come from rank alone, but from your capacity to lead ethically, communicate clearly and make sound decisions under pressure,” he said.

The CAS emphasised the importance of innovation and critical thinking in modern military operations, noting that the evolving security landscape, characterised by hybrid warfare and the activities of non-state actors, required adaptability and technological proficiency.

According to him, the future battlefield will favour personnel who are agile, innovative and capable of making decisive decisions under pressure.

Aneke also congratulated allied officers who participated in the course, describing their presence as a reflection of a shared commitment to unity, cooperation and collective security.

He urged them to sustain the professional relationships established during the programme and leverage them to strengthen future partnerships in joint operations, peacekeeping missions and multinational exercises.

The CAS commended the directing staff and instructors for their dedication and mentorship, noting that their contributions had shaped not only the intellectual capacity but also the character of the graduating officers.

He said the impact of their efforts extended beyond Nigeria and contributed significantly to military professionalism across Africa.

Aneke further highlighted progress in military education, enhanced training programmes and welfare initiatives, expressing confidence that the Armed Forces would continue to evolve into a highly professional, credible and respected institution.

Addressing the graduates, he described the occasion as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to leadership and service.

He urged them to uphold the values of discipline, courage, commitment and integrity in all future assignments.

Earlier, the Commandant of the college, AVM Alfred Shogbanmu, commended the graduates for their dedication, perseverance and commitment throughout the demanding programme.

Shogbanmu said the course was designed to challenge participants intellectually, broaden their perspectives and prepare them for the complexities of contemporary security and leadership environments.

According to him, the programme strengthened the officers’ capabilities in decision-making, critical thinking and policy analysis, which are essential for addressing professional and operational challenges.

He noted that the participants had built lasting relationships with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and had joined the institution’s distinguished alumni network.

The commandant congratulated the international students who successfully completed the course and urged them to remain committed to professional development and service to their respective countries.

He also acknowledged the support of government, the institution’s leadership, directing staff, administrative personnel and technical staff, describing their contributions as critical to the successful conduct of the programme.

Shogbanmu urged the graduates to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and service wherever they might be called upon to serve.
