Political stakeholders from Daura Local Government Area of Katsina, have called on the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahaya-Daura, to contest the zone’s Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made during a stakeholders’ meeting with the speaker in Daura, as part of ongoing consultations following growing appeals from supporters and political actors urging him to seek the senatorial position.
The meeting brought together respected elders, political leaders, youths, women, and loyal supporters from across the local government area.
Also in attendance were leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the local government level, councillors, and aides to the Speaker serving in various capacities.
Many of the stakeholders unanimously appealed to the speaker to heed what they described as the “collective call of the people” by contesting for the Daura Senatorial seat in the forthcoming elections.
According to them, his track record of leadership, dedication to public service and quality representation has earned him the confidence of his constituents and admiration from neighbouring communities, who they said also desire his representation at the national level.
They noted that his experience in legislative leadership and grassroots engagement positioned him as a capable candidate who could effectively represent the interests of the Daura zone at the Senate.
Responding, the speaker expressed appreciation to the stakeholders for honouring his invitation and for sharing their views and counsel on the matter.
He said consultations would continue with a wider spectrum of stakeholders before a final decision on the calls for him to join the senatorial race.
He, however, expressed optimism that by the will of Allah, he would respond positively to the aspirations of the people.
The Speaker also reaffirmed his commitment to mature and issue-based politics, stressing that his political engagement would be guided by peace, calmness and respect for democratic values rather than a “do-or-die” approach.
During the deliberations, participants discussed major political issues and developmental priorities affecting the Council and the wider Daura zone.
