NYCN Condemns FG’s Reintegration of 744 Ex-Terrorists, Demands Justice for Victims

By Sani Idris Abdulrahman

The National President of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Isah Abubakar, has expressed strong opposition to the Federal Government’s policy of reintegrating former terrorists into society under the guise of “deradicalization and vocational training.”

Abubakar, in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna, said the Council is deeply concerned about the lack of accountability for the widespread destruction, mass killings, and profound trauma inflicted on families and communities across Northern Nigeria.

He questioned the moral framework of the program, stressing that it appears to prioritize perpetrators over victims.

He asked, if those responsible for heinous crimes are being rehabilitated, what measures are being taken to compensate victims who have lost their loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.

Abubakar added that the reported release of 744 “repentant” terrorists is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances.

He further stated that the policy risks undermining justice and could erode public trust, warning that prioritizing the resettlement of aggressors over the welfare of victims is a flawed approach to peacebuilding.

Abubakar urged the Federal Government to urgently reconsider the policy, emphasizing that true and lasting peace cannot be achieved without justice, accountability, and proper support for victims.

He restated the NYCN's commitment in advocating for the rights of victims and ensuring that their voices are not ignored in the pursuit of national reconciliation.
