The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern Region has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained and constructive engagement with government, traditional institutions, and other faith communities to promote peace and national development.
The association said such engagement has become increasingly critical amid lingering security challenges, rising social tensions, and pockets of mistrust affecting communities, particularly across northern Nigeria.
In statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Kaduna by the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, the association stressed that addressing these challenges requires deliberate collaboration among key stakeholders.
According to the statement, effective partnership with government authorities and traditional institutions would deepen dialogue, rebuild confidence among diverse groups, and establish sustainable frameworks for peace and social stability.
Hayab noted that beyond its spiritual mandate, the Church remains committed to contributing responsibly to nation building through interfaith cooperation, community-based outreach, and civic engagement initiatives.
He added that CAN’s engagement strategy would prioritise justice and equity, while advocating lawful and inclusive approaches to resolving grievances that often fuel grassroots tensions and conflict.
The Northern CAN chairman further emphasised that the protection of Christians’ rights would continue within the broader framework of respect for the rule of law and the rights of all Nigerians.
He expressed optimism that sustained dialogue, responsible leadership, and collective commitment by stakeholders would help Nigeria make measurable progress in peace, security, and national integration in 2026.
