Best Chief Medical Director Of The Year, DR. Mustapha Abubakar Yaro, Chief Medical Director National Ear care Centre, Kaduna

Dr Mustapha Abubakar Yaro was born in
Kaduna on 13th March 1969 to the family of Alhaji Abubakar Yaro.

He started his academic
pursuit at LEA primary school Unguan Rimi from 1975 to 1981 and proceeded
to the famous Government
Secondary School Dutsinnma, the
same year.

On completion of his secondary education at Rimi College Kaduna in 1986, he proceeded to College of advanced Studies Zaria between 1987 and 1989, and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he studied Medicine between 1989 and 1998 and graduated with MBBS.

He had his house job and National
Youth Service Corps(NYSC) in 1999 and 2000 respectively.
Thereafter, he commenced his
medical practice as Medical officer in charge of General Hospital Ingawa, Katsina state.

In 2005 he proceeded for a residency program in Otorhinolaryngology at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and
completed in 2011. During his training. he was Chief Resident (AKTH) nd was
also a recipient of Olulbekwe
Prize in Otorhinolaryngology
in the West African College of
Surgeons 2012 On qualifying as Consultant in this very rare area of medical
specialty, he returned to his State (Katsina) as Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist
Katsina General Hospital, where he rose to become Head of Clinical Services in 2011.

In recognition of his immense
contribution in patient care, he
was appointed Medical Director of the same hospital in 2012-2016.

In appreciation of his administrative skills and passion for health care development,
the government of Katsina State
appointed him as Director, Medical Services of Hospitals management board in 2016.

Dr. Mustapha A Yaro, a Fellow, West African College of Surgeons, Fellow International College of Surgeons and Fellow, Institute of Industrialists and
Corporate Administrators was
appointed Medical Director of National Ear Care Centre kaduna in August 2018.

Upon completion of his first tenure this year, President Bola Tinubu reappointed him as Substantive Medical Director for another four- year tenure. This was in recognition of the laudable projects he successfully executed in the Centre during his first term.

There is no doubt, the National Ear Care Centre Kaduna needed re-engneering and a sense of direction.

The progress recorded from August 2018 to date since the assumption of
office of Dr Mustapha Yaro as the Chief Executive is proof that his choice was not a mistake.

This was equally evident when
he received an standing ovation/special recognition by the house committee on tertiary health institutions during their
oversight function to the Centre.

Dr Mustapłha Yaro has a high taste for quality and a dislike for failure and mediocrity with zero tolerance to corruption.

His passion for quality, both in terms of human capability, infrastructure and output has shown in his handling of affairs
of the Centre over the years.

He has received numerous awards from
various organizations and civil society groups.

An Examiner of West African College of Surgeons and a Visiting Consultant to Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina.
Dr Yaro has served in various committees both at state and federal levels notably:
Committee on five-year strategic development plan for ear and hearing care; Development and review of task shifting and sharing policy of the health sector and essential drug list committee amongst others.

The meritorious service he renders to National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna as manifested in improved health care
delivery, massive training of personnel, procurement of modern equipiments and physical development of the Centre,
which now ranks amongst the best specialised tertiary health institutions in the country.
