As Nigerian commemorates the National Ordnance Day, the North-West Zonal Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Hamisu Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to uphold national symbols.

The national ordnance day, also known as national symbols day, is observed in Nigeria on Sept.16 annually to promote and standardise the correct use of national symbols like the flag and coat of arms.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna, Abubakar explained that the day aimed to deepen citizens’ awareness and understanding of Nigeria’s national symbols.

The symbols include the national flag, coat of arms, Nigerian currency, and Nigerian passport.

Abubakar also said the national anthem and pledge were also revered symbols.

He said the citizens recite the pledge to show loyalty and commitment to the nation, adding that the anthem inspired patriotism and unity.

Abubakar encouraged Nigerians to uphold the symbols with dignity, emphasising that they represent the country’s collective identity, unity, and national pride.

He stated that through civic engagement, the NOA was instilling patriotism and national consciousness.

“The agency believes this will foster a greater sense of unity among Nigerians. Unity is key to national development,”he said.

The zonal director emphasised the significance of the national symbols, stating that they were crucial for national pride and identity.

“The NOA’s efforts have increased awareness about national symbols.

“The agency continues to engage citizens through sensitisation programmes.

“This promotes a sense of responsibility among Nigerians.

“The agency’s initiatives have contributed to a greater understanding of national symbols,” he said.

Abubakar restated NOA’s commitment to promoting patriotism and national consciousness.(NAN)
