The Commandant, Depot, Nigerian Army Maj.-Gen. Ahmadu-Bello Muhammad, says leadership and management are critical phenomena in the profession of arms, serving as the bedrock of a functional and effective Army.
Muhammad stated this at Leadership and Management Seminar Course 46 at the Warrant Officers’ Academy on Monday at the Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.
The News Agency of NIgeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the seminar was ‘Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Operational Effectiveness: Leadership Imperative for Modern Military’.
He highlighted that decisions made by leaders at all levels impact operational effectiveness, and junior leadership plays a vital role in achieving organizational objectives.
The commandant stated that the dynamic nature of warfare required high standards in military leadership and management, particularly in junior leadership positions.
He emphasised the importance of realism in training, encouraging participants to draw from their personal experiences in various operations.
Muhammad said the seminar aimed to develop the leadership capabilities of the warrant officers, sharpen their approach to managing subordinates, and expand their understanding of the noble profession.
He emphasised that the seminar would prepare the participants to be role models for their subordinates, contribute to team ethos, and enhance operational effectiveness.
The commandant commended the Nigerian Army authorities for organising the seminar, recognising the crucial role of the warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers in the Armed Forces.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Warrant Officers’ Academy, Brig.-Gen. Aminu Umar, said the seminar aimed to bridge the leadership and management gap between commissioned officers and the enlisted cadre.
He also said the seminar provided a unique opportunity for the students to share perspectives and experiences.
According to him, the academy was designed to develop requisite skills in warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers, enabling them to demonstrate good leadership and management skills.
Umar said the seminar was packaged to empower the warrant officers with the needed skills and acumen to enhance their abilities to discharge their duties effectively.
He said the theme of the seminar was designed to prepare the students for leadership and managerial roles.
He added that the seminar was both important and timely, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy of consolidating the transformation of the Nigerian Army.
He disclosed that the seminar brought together personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and Nigerian Air Force, promoting inter-service collaboration and teamwork..
He reaffirmed the academy’s commitment to evolving leadership development at the junior level, tackling contemporary security issues in Nigeria.
