FAM initiative to hold art therapy for 100 children in Kaduna

An NGO, Friends Advocacy for Mental Health Initiative (FAM) would be holding an art therapy for 100 children, transforming materials into powerful tools for emotional expression and healing in Kaduna state.
Founder of the initiative,Jecinta Egbim stated this in a statement made available to journalist on Wednesday.
She said that the event titled "the Art Xplosion 3.0 would help participants learn to express feelings that might otherwise remain unspoken, build resilience and self-awareness.
"Understanding that mental health needs vary across age groups, the event offers tailored experiences as we have divided them into two key age brackets: 6-9 and 11-19 years.
" To ensure inclusiveness, we also gave special consideration to children with neurological disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, and Down syndrome, as well as those from low-income communities and those managing mental health challenges.
"This commitment to inclusivity reflects our belief that every child deserves access to mental health support and creative expression opportunities",she said.
She stated the event would be a two-day workshop engaging in comprehensive training sessions on mental resilience using art and practical Art creation workshop focusing on paper quill and origami.
Egbim stated that participant-led art therapy sessions would also be held showcasing learned skills and creative expression into practice while promoting peer support and community connection.
She explained that the Art Xplosion 3.0 is aimed at building a foundation of mental health awareness and self-understanding while providing practical and creative coping tools through artistic expression.
She added that the event would also create safe spaces for emotional exploration and promoting lasting connections within a supportive community.
"Fundraise for the Safe Haven Community clubs which are the Adolescents Safe Haven (ASH) Club in secondary schools and the Adolescents and Adults Safe Haven club in Primary Healthcare Centres offers Psychosocial support to young people struggling with drug and substance abuse.
"This event represents FAM's ongoing dedication to advancing mental health support in rural communities and schools", she said.(NAN)
