Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr Musa Garba, on Thursday warned members of the civilian Joint Taskforce (JTF) against insecurity to stop taking the laws in to their own hands.
Addressing a meeting he held with representatives of the JTF, Garba charged them to allow legal processes to prevail at all times while discharging their functions.
He also charged them to be professional and to always liaise with the police while conducting operations in the state.
He said the meeting became necessary because of series of complaints by members of the public about high-handedness and unprofessional conducts by some members of the JTF.
“Recently, three persons lost their lives through the mishandling of cases reported to the JTF and this happened because the JTF did not liaise with the police in their areas of responsibilities.
“In response to series of complaints received by the police, I have directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to undertake stringent measures and supervision on activities of the civilian JTF.
“This is with the sole aim of deterring ugly trends in the near future,’’ Garba said.
He assured that the police would initiate comprehensive training programmes for members of the JTF focused on cultivating the culture of civility and professionalism.
Garba, however, appreciated JTF’s support and cooperation with the police over time. (NAN)
