The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, on Saturday offered free medical outreach to 1,000 displaced and vulnerable women in kawo community of the state.
Speaking during the outreach at Hanyin Banki primary school, the Kaduna state Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmed, commended the association for a good initiative, adding that it would improve the women health.
She encourage them to embrace the kind gesture given to them by health personnels, and also ensure they go for vaccination which is free.
“I advise you to take every advantage given to you during medical outreaches like this, make sure you take care of yourselves and your children to prevent sicknesses.
“Health is wealth, improve in your hygiene, and avoid self medication because it has adverse effects on one’s health,”she said.
The Commissioner assures them of the government commitment in improving the quality of health delivery in the state.
“Governor Uba Sani is committed to the health and wellbeing of the citizens of the state.
“He has also map out another 255 primary health centers to be upgraded making it a total of 510 in other to ensure quality delivery in the health sector.
“He has bought modern equipment and distributed it to most of the health facilities in the state,”she added.
Also speaking, the State’s Director of Nursing, Ministry of Health, Sa’adatu Ahmed, said the outreach was part of the association’s celebration to mark the 2023 Nurses week which held in May.
Ahmed said every year the association conducts medical outreach, noting that of the year 2023 was targeted at displaced persons and vulnerable women in communities.
She therefore, said they sensitised them on sexual reproductive health, among others.
Earlier in his speech, the community leader, Mahmood Shehu, appreciated the association and state government for thier gesture in remembering the vulnerable and displaced women.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that screening of hepatitis and HIV were conducted and distribution of hygiene kits at the outreach.
Some of the beneficiaries who are displaced women from Maiduguri, Falmata Usman and Hafsat Mahammadu, appreciated the association, while assuring them of proper usage of the hygiene kits given to them (NAN)
