The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Kaduna State, on Monday began a skill acquisition training for 43 unemployed youths under its Youth Transformation Training Scheme .
Alhaji Ahmed Kawuri, the state Co-ordinator, said the participants would be trained on photography, fashion design, carpentary and hair dressing for the duration of six months or more.
Kawuri, who was represented by Hajiya Halima Waziri, the State Accountant, said the training was the second phase with participants drawn from the 50 persons that participated in the first phase.
He urged participants to be serious and pay attention to the training as it would assist them in becoming self reliant and employers of labour.
Similarly, the director, Vocational Skills Development (VSD), Alhaji Isah Abdu, congratulated participants for being part of the training, saying it was an opportunity many were seeking.
The director, represented by Hajiya Bilkisu Junaidu from the NDE headquarters Abuja, said the programme was aimed at reducing unemployment among youths through skill acquisition.
He urged participants to use the opportunity judiciously through regular attendance and obeying trainer’s instructions during the programme.
“You are getting the training for free and stipends would be given to you to cover transport; therefore you must be serious,” he said.
Meanwhile, participants at the training expressed their appreciation to the NDE, promising to put in their best throughout the training.
Isiyaku Tanimu, who represented the participants, said he had learned carpentary and was willing to perfect his skills so that he could teach others too.
He urged youths to learn skills as there were no white collar jobs anymore.( (NAN)
