IWD: Usman seeks greater inclusion of women in governance

By Perpetua Onuegbu

The Interim National Chairman of Labour Party, Sen. Nenadi Usman, has called for stronger legislative and policy measures to promote greater women inclusion in governance and decision-making processes in Nigeria.

Usman, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day, congratulated women across the world and particularly Nigerian women, whom she described as resilient and hardworking.

She stated that empowering women and ensuring their participation in leadership positions was essential to the country’s development.

The former senator, who said she had consistently advocated for the rights and advancement of women during her time in the National Assembly, urged stakeholders to intensify efforts toward fashioning out policies that would strengthen women’s representation in public life.

According to her, Nigeria can only achieve its full potential when the voices, talents and leadership of women are fully recognised and represented in all sectors of national life.

Usman also encouraged Nigerian women to continue to contribute to nation-building while striving for greater inclusion in governance.(NAN)
