The Nigerian Army, through the Headquarters 1 Division, on Friday honoured nine retiring Master Warrant Officers (MWOs) with a ceremonial send-forth in recognition of their meritorious service.
The event, held at the Stallion Auditorium, Headquarters 1 Division, was presided over by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase.
The ceremony celebrated the retirees’ 35 years of dedicated service and contributions to the operational effectiveness of the Division and the Army at large.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the GOC commended the outgoing senior non-commissioned officers for their professionalism, discipline, and commitment to duty.
“You have served your country with distinction,” Wase said. “As you transition into civilian life, remain worthy ambassadors of the Nigerian Army and apply the knowledge and strategies acquired over the years for a smooth reintegration into society.”
The honoured personnel include MWO Bala John (1 Division Finance), MWO Bola Shola (101 Division Equipment Support), MWO Aminu Dauda (1 Division Physical Training Group), MWO Danboyi Emmanuel (HQ 51 Signals Brigade), MWO Edmond Ochonma (HQ 1 Division), and MWO Sallau Mohammed (1 Division Finance).
Others are MWO Mary Rowland (1 Division Garrison), MWO Yunusa Abdullahi (71 Supply and Transport Brigade), and MWO Hussaini Garba (510 Signal Regiment).
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, MWO Bola Shola expressed appreciation to the Army leadership for the honour and support received throughout their careers.
He also thanked colleagues for their camaraderie and prayed for the continued success of the Army leadership.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, including the Chief of Staff 1 Division, formation commanders, and other personnel.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of souvenirs and flat-screen televisions to the retirees, as well as a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
