Mr Audu Usman, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has emerged the overall winner of maiden Emir of Zazzau Drivers’ Competition, 2024.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition was organised by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna State Sector Command.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Kabir Nadabo, announced this on Monday in Kaduna.
Nadabo said Sagir Mohammed of the National Association of Road Transport Owners( NARTO) clinched the second position and Aliyu Usman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association (PTD), took the third position.
According to Nadabo, 25 drivers participated in the competition, with six reaching the final stage and the top three clinched the first, second and third positions.
He said the criteria followed in the competition included a driver must have a valid driving licence, ability to communicate, seat belt compliance, manoeuvring ability, stopping roles and morning parade to check fitness of vehicle, among others.
Nadabo explained that the essence of the competition was to uphold professionalism of driving, adding, ”people should stop thinking that driving is just a job that you do because you have not gotten a government work.
”The rationale behind the competition was to tell the world that there is a good synergy between Kaduna State, Zazzau Emirate, the transport unions with the command.”
Nadabo said that the competition would henceforth be held yearly.
Gov. Uba Sani, represented by the Chairman, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Gambo Mohammed, commended FRSC for initiating the competition.
He said, “We remain grateful to the Emir of Zazzau for supporting the event while i am urging the motoring to always abide by road traffic rules.”
The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu-Bamalli, said the emirate will continue to support such good initiatives.
Represented by Mr Balarabe Musa, who is the Garkuwan Ayyukan Zazzau, the emir appealed to always heed to FRSC’s advice to enable it to achieve its core mandate.
