Kaduna State Takes Major Step Towards Universal Health Coverage

By Stella Kabruk

A 4-Day Workshop organized by the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA) in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) has empowered staff to expand health insurance and improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes. The training aimed to build foundational knowledge on health financing and strengthen the state health insurance scheme capabilities.

The workshop was designed to advance the universal health coverage agenda and develop an action plan to improve operational and technical processes. According to the Director General of KADCHMA, Mallam Abubakar Hassan, represented by the Director of Operations Dr. Juliana Bungwon, the training will equip participants with the necessary skills to move KADCHMA forward.

CHAI's support for the workshop is part of its broader efforts to strengthen health systems and improve access to care in low- and middle-income countries. The organization has worked with governments and health administrators to make medical oxygen available in hospitals and improve health financing systems.¹

The training is a significant step towards achieving universal health coverage in Kaduna State. By expanding health insurance and improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes, KADCHMA aims to reduce health inequalities and improve the overall well-being of its citizens.

The partnership between KADCHMA and CHAI demonstrates the importance of collaboration in achieving health development goals. By working together, governments, development partners, and health organizations can leverage resources, expertise, and knowledge to improve health outcomes.

As KADCHMA continues to work towards universal health coverage, the support of development partners like CHAI will be crucial. The organization's expertise in health financing, health system strengthening, and access to care will be invaluable in achieving the state's health development goals.

The success of the workshop and the partnership between KADCHMA and CHAI is a testament to the power of collaboration in improving health outcomes. As Kaduna State continues on its journey towards universal health coverage, it is clear that the support of development partners, the dedication of health workers, and the commitment of government agencies will be essential in achieving this goal.
