Pulse.ng : Major General MS Saleh Commissions Nyiam Park in Honor of Academy Adjutant

In a momentous celebration of dedication, exemplary leadership, and tireless commitment, Major General MS Saleh (Rtd), a former Academy Adjutant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), officially commissioned Nyiam Park at the NDA Afaka campus on 2 December 2024. This park has been established to honour the current Academy Adjutant, Lieutenant Colonel MK Nyiam.

The commissioning ceremony served to befittingly recognise Nyiam's outstanding tenure as the Academy Adjutant and was attended by a distinguished assembly of both serving and retired senior military officers. Notable guests included Senator (Major General) MS Saleh (retired), a former NDA Adjutant; Major General MA Yerima (Rtd), a former Commandant of the NDA; Brigadier General Mannix Nyiam (Rtd), a former NDA Director of Finance and father of Lieutenant Colonel MK Nyiam; and the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Major General MLD Saraso. The event was further graced by prominent civilian dignitaries, alongside military and non-military staff of the Academy.

During the ceremony, Major General Saleh emphasized that the commissioning of the park was not only a recognition of Lieutenant Colonel MK Nyiam’s significant achievements but also a celebration of the core values of integrity, loyalty and excellence synonymous with the NDA. He acknowledged Colonel Nyiam's substantial contributions to the growth and development of the NDA, affirming that this recognition reflects his exceptional service to both the Academy and the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Major General Saleh encouraged all military officers, civilian staff, cadets and corps members present to emulate the admirable qualities embodied by Lieutenant Colonel Nyiam and to aspire toward making impactful contributions in their respective roles.

Senator MS Saleh further commended Lieutenant Colonel MK Nyiam for his remarkable resilience, dedication, intelligence, and integrity—qualities that have rightfully earned him the honor of having a park named after him at the NDA. He also stated that he was particularly impressed by the Nyiam’s command of the NDA 60th Anniversary, Trooping and Presentation of colours parade reviewed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. Senator Saleh also praised the NDA Commandant for his unwavering commitment to fostering excellence at the academy through initiatives such as this.

In his vote of thanks, Lieutenant Colonel MK Nyiam expressed profound gratitude to the senior officers and dignitaries in attendance, recognizing their inspirational roles throughout his military career, particularly Senator Saleh and Brigadier General Mannix Nyiam (Rtd). He conveyed that the commissioning of Nyiam Park stands as a tribute to the values instilled in him by his mentors since his cadet days at the NDA. Colonel Nyiam also extended his heartfelt appreciation to Major General JO Ochai, emphasizing how the support and encouragement he has received have continuously motivated him to strive for excellence, culminating in this significant honor.

Nyiam Park, strategically located between the Oliver Nzalgana Parade Ground and Mogadishu Battalion, will serve as a lasting symbol of dedication, hard work, ingenuity, integrity, and loyalty—qualities exemplified by Lieutenant Colonel MK Nyiam throughout his service as Academy Adjutant. The park also aligns with the NDA's vision of fostering a greener environment, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting environmental sustainability, foundational principles championed by the current Commandant, Major General JO Ochai.
